Wherefrom privacy

What this is

Wherefrom is a Chrome extension for x.com and pro.x.com. It reads two public lines X already shows on an account: which App Store that account used, and the place X lists. It puts a flag or a short badge next to the handle. It is not an X product.

What stays on your computer

The extension does not send saved labels to our servers. You can export recent App Store labels to a file. If you import that file into Tweedelette's Following tool and preview a store, the matching handles are sent to our server so we can find accounts you currently follow. The other labels stay in your browser.

• The highlight and hide words you type, your ring colors, and your display settings stay in Chrome on your devices.
• Handles, App Store regions, and listed places stay on that computer. We keep a known store region so the badge can come back without asking X again. We check it again after a couple of weeks. If an account had no region listed, we ask again after a couple of days.
• A local report stores the IDs of posts you saw on screen, the handles, and when you saw them. It shows a map and counts by App Store region for posts and accounts on Home, Following, and X Pro. It is not a complete list of everyone you follow. The report stays on your computer and is not sent to us.
• If X asks the extension to wait, that wait stays on that computer.
• If you buy Wherefrom Pro, the Pro key is saved in Chrome on your devices.

Wherefrom Pro

Badges are free. Pro is a one-time purchase on tweedelette.com. Stripe handles the card. We keep a checkout record (the amount, the time, and the Stripe checkout id) so we can show you the key again if you lose it. Stripe does not send us card numbers.

After you pay, the tweedelette.com page shows your key and hands it to the extension. Come back to that page in the same browser and the key is there again. My account at /account/ shows the same key for the purchase in that browser, so you can paste it in the Wherefrom app on your phone. The Wherefrom popup can also show the saved key. The extension checks the key on your computer and saves it. The page can ask the extension whether Pro is on, and whether a key is saved. It does not receive the key from the extension. The extension does not send saved labels, the report, or anything you scrolled past.

Everything Pro adds runs on your computer. Region counts on replies and lists use badges that are already on screen. Looking up one account uses your open x.com tab, the same lookup a badge uses. The CSV and the map image are files on your computer. We do not get a copy.

What we never get

We do not get your X password, your DMs, or your timeline. We do not sell data, run ads, or stick tracking pixels on the page. We do not change how X loads the page.

Talking to X

While you are logged into X, Wherefrom asks X for the App Store and the listed place on the handles you scroll past. That uses your normal X session in the page. Those questions go to X, not to us.

Your choices

Clear saved data in the extension popup removes the saved labels, the report, and any wait. Remove the extension if you want to delete what it saved.
